Prior to becoming a realtor, I worked 20+ years in the field of wildlife conservation. The experience I gained from this work shaped my life in many ways. During my grad school coursework, a statement made by a professor resonated so strongly with me that I wrote it on a scrap of paper, and it is still on my refrigerator to this day. The statement was “If you want to make a difference in the field of wildlife conservation, the only way you will succeed is to be good at working with people”. I had experienced this fact in my work already and knew it to be true. People make the decisions that affect wildlife conservation, and if you can’t talk to people on their level – whether you are dealing with a multi-billionaire donor or a farmer in the country – you will not succeed. From this work, I gained exceptional people skills. The bonus was that I genuinely enjoyed working with people to help them achieve mutually beneficial goals. Another unexpected side skill I acquired during this time was to become accomplished at buying and selling houses due to the multiple moves required for my work. When I began exploring new career options, real estate seemed like the obvious direction for me to go. I love the process of buying and selling homes - it is always exciting, and each experience is different. But more than that, I love helping people. This is where I excel.
